Legendary musician Tan Sri Ahmad Nawab died at about 3:15pm on Saturday due to suffocation.
Ahmad or Ahmad Khan Nawab Khan breathed his last at the age of 92.
The news of the deceased’s passing was confirmed by his son, Nasir Nawab, who informed him that the deceased died at his residence in Gombak, Selangor.
“That’s right, my father just died at home at about 3:15 this afternoon due to suffocation,” he said when contacted. mStar on Sunday.
In the meantime, Nasir said that Ahmad Nawab had previously been detained at the National Heart Institute (IJN) due to shortness of breath.
In fact, the deceased’s health during this month was not very good and was often unhealthy.
“Actually, during this month, the deceased’s condition was not very healthy, in fact, he had previously been detained at the IJN due to shortness of breath.
“I am saddened by the passing of the deceased, and I was with him at that time,” he explained.
The remains are expected to be buried at the Raudathul Sakinah Islamic Cemetery, Gombak around 10 am after the burial of the remains at the surah near his residence.
For the record, the deceased has published 200 albums as a result of collaboration with many popular singers such as Sudirman, Uji Rashid, Hetty Koes Endang, Ramlah Ram and Datuk Khadijah Ibrahim.
Ahmad Nawab has also produced more than 2,000 songs since he was active as a composer in the 1950s.
The deceased is also the individual behind the song Malaysia Truly Asia sung by Khadijah Ibrahim to promote the country on the international stage which remains iconic to this day.
His late contribution to the local music scene was also recognized by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) who awarded him an Honorary Doctorate in Writing in 2000.
Then in 2006, Ahmad Nawab who had served with the RTM Orchestra for 17 years received the National Artist Award.
In June last year, Ahmad Nawab was awarded the title of Commander of the Loyal Crown (PSM) which carries the title of Tan Sri in conjunction with the official birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah. – Agency
