War and conflicts: So far, NATO member states have coordinated military aid to Ukraine through an informal cooperation led by the United States. NATO’s position is that the alliance is not a party to the war between Russia and Ukraine.

But the cooperation’s dependence on the United States has left European countries worried that it could falter if the presidential election in November sees Donald Trump return to the White House, as his willingness to support Ukraine is questioned.

Although he does not want to say that the proposal has anything to do with Trump, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg has proposed that the responsibility for coordinating military aid in the future should be placed on NATO. The proposal has a framework of 100 billion euros.
