Crime and justice: Demonstrators with flags and Palestinian scarves flocked to Stortorget in Malmö on Saturday afternoon.

– Israel commits genocide in Palestine. Can I go to a folk festival in Sweden???, reads the poster of one of the activists.

Israel’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest has caused reactions in several countries. The demonstrators believe that the country must be banned from the song competition because of the hostilities in Gaza.

Swedish police inform VG that there are between 5,000 and 6,000 present at the demonstrations on Saturday.

– Boycott, boycott, boycott Israel, shouted the participants.

Over the weekend, the Eurovision circus has also been hit by other controversies.

On Saturday, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) announced that the Netherlands’ entry from artist Joost Klein will be banned from the final following an incident that is being investigated by the police.

In addition, several countries have been absent from Saturday’s last dress rehearsal before the final show. Among them was Ireland’s Bambie Thug who has demanded that Israel be banned from the competition after alleged breaches of the regulations.
