Sport: Hovland played out of the close match after a nightmare finish in the third round on Saturday. In the last round, he made three straight bogeys on holes seven, eight and nine, but lifted his game halfway through, before it again fell apart towards the end. Thus ended the round at three strokes under par.

In total there were five bogeys and two birdies.

He finished on two strokes over par in total and is currently tied for 15th place. The Norwegian thus failed to copy last year’s victory in the tournament, which is played on the legendary Jack Nicklaus’ course in Ohio.

World number one Scottie Scheffler leads the tournament with a few holes remaining.

Next week, the major US Open awaits at the Pinehurst course in North Carolina. Hovland has a 12th place as the best in the major tournament. He achieved that in 2019.
