This was the Portuguese’s second season with the team in the golfing state without the most precious metal.

After 1-1 at full time and goalless extra time, Friday’s match had to be decided on penalties. It ended 5-4 to Al-Hilal.

As many as three players had to leave the field with red cards during the match, among them Al-Nassr’s goalkeeper David Ospina, who caught the ball with his hands outside the penalty area early in the second half.

The cup final on Friday took place just four days after Al-Nassr finished in second place in the country’s top league, 14 points behind Al-Hilal. A bright spot then was that Ronaldo set a new scoring record in one season, with 35 goals.
