KUALA LUMPUR, NOV 18 – No new cases of monkeypox or monkeypox (Mpox) have been detected so far today after the last case was reported on September 16, said Malaysia’s Health Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.
He said the decision was reached after the Ministry of Health (MOH) screened 22.8 million tourists at the entrance to the country.
“As far as we know, there are no new cases and only one previous case,” he said in a press conference after officiating the Silver Jubilee Celebration Ceremony of the Ministry of Health’s Stem Cell/Bone Marrow Transplant Service at Hospital Ampang, in Kuala Lumpur today.
On 16 September last, the Ministry of Health confirmed that one positive case of monkey pox in the clade II variant was detected, making all 10 cases since 26 July 2023.
Mpox virus clade I is categorized as highly contagious and has a mortality rate of 10 percent, while clade II has a lower mortality rate. – Named
