CLEVELAND, Ohio – A North Ridgeville school teacher has been charged with stalking her former boyfriend, authorities say.
A Cuyahoga County grand jury on Tuesday indicted Hannah Freeman, 27, on charges of menacing by stalking, burglary, aggravated theft, identity fraud and theft of drugs.
A directory of North Ridgeville school district employees lists her as a fourth-grade teacher at Ranger High-Tech Academy.
She is free on a personal bond and set to make her first appearance in court Dec. 13. The victim in the case has obtained a temporary protection order, preventing Freeman from going near him.
WKYC, a news partner of cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer, and The Chronicle-Telegram in Elyria reported that the incidents stemmed from early November, when Freeman’s former boyfriend told police that she had stolen two backpacks, containing laptops, medication and his wallet.
Police estimated the value of the items at $1,100.
The former boyfriend said he and Freeman had dated for months before breaking up in April. Since then, WKYC reported, Freeman had gone to his job and his home unannounced, according to the police report. WKYC and the Elyria newspaper reported that Westlake police were able to track Freeman’s vehicle at the former boyfriend’s job at least 33 times on 19 different days over the past month.
The news station said North Ridgeville schools officials placed Freeman on administrative leave. Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer reached out to her attorney, Michael Kinlin, and police for comment.
A copy of the indictment was not available on the Cuyahoga County clerk’s website.
The case began in Rocky River Municipal Court, where the former boyfriend gained a protection order. It was later bound over to a county grand jury.
