Mike Teunissen will not be seen again next year in the yellow and black outfit of Jumbo Visma. The Dutchman is continuing his career with Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert, the Belgian team said. Teunissen was employed by the Dutch formation for four years.
It’s been in the air for a while, and now it’s official. After four years, Teunissen is closing the door at Jumbo-Visma, and is embarking on a new adventure at Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert. With the arrival of Tiesj Benoot and Christophe Laporte, Teunissen dropped in the pecking order with the Dutch team in the spring classics. At Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert he will normally get more freedom in the cobbled classics.
Teunissen wants to score in the shadow of Girmay
On the plow site of his new employer, the Dutchman is delighted with his transfer. ‘Like the rest of the world, I have seen the steps Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux continues to make. When the management of the team radiated great confidence in me, I didn’t have long to consider the options for my future. The total package really appealed to me. The structure and policy are good and I have a great role to play in the classic spring. I want to color the finals there and create opportunities for the team in the shadow of Biniam Girmay, who has already proven that he can win the most important matches,” said Teunissen.
Performance Manager Aike Visbeek is also happy with Teunissen’s arrival. ‘I am very happy with the arrival of Mike Teunissen. His choice for our team is a confirmation of our ambitions in the classics and of what we have shown this year with Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux. With Mike we have a new quality injection from next season to be able to create more tactical space in the finals. He is a great rider to work with and will undoubtedly form a good combination with Biniam Girmay and Adrien Petit in the core of our classic team. I am convinced that this change will lead to success for Mike and also be fruitful for Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux.’
