COLUMBUS, Ohio – The number of newly reported COVID-19 cases in Ohio this week dipped to the lowest level since June and is running well below the same time last year, according to the weekly update Thursday from the Ohio Department of Health.
There were 2,491 cases added to the total of nearly 4 million in the last week, in comparison to an increase of 2,779 a week ago. During the first full week of November 2023, the state reported 7,511 new cases.
Yet an additional 23 deaths were reported in the last week, 83 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 and seven were admitted to intensive care units.
Since the onset of COVID-19 in early 2020, Ohio has reported 3,860,631 cases, 155,113 hospitalizations, 15,943 ICU admissions and 44,424 deaths.
An updated vaccine was released in August. Since then, 866,438 Ohioans have received the shot, the health department reported. That is up 70,890 in the last week. The total represents 7.4% of Ohioans.
