Ohio COVID-19 cases flat for another week: Coronavirus update for Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The number of new COVID-19 cases in Ohio essentially stayed steady this week, moving from 2,239 last week to 2,250 this week, the state reported Thursday.

At this same time last year, the state reported just over 8,000 cases. In early November 2023, Ohio’s weekly COVID-19 numbers began an upward curve that lasted through the holidays.

At least 988,279 Ohioans have received the new 2024-2025 updated vaccine COVID-19 vaccine first offered in August, an increase of 58,582 from the prior week, the state reported. This represents 8.4% of the state’s population.

The total COVID-19 case count since early 2020 in Ohio has reached 3,865,120.

There were 82 Ohioans newly hospitalized in the last week, raising the total since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 to 155,340. A total of two people were admitted into the ICU, raising the total since 2020 to 15,948.

The state health department reported an additional 23 deaths from COVID-19, raising the total to 44,462. Death reporting sometimes lags by weeks.
