Accidents and natural disasters: The building was empty, but previously housed a patisserie and various municipal services. The emergency services were notified of the fire at 19.55 and the fire brigade went out with seven vehicles.

Duty commander Aleksander Olsen of the Oslo Fire and Rescue Service tells NTB at midnight on Sunday that there is still a good fire at the site.

– The roof has collapsed and it is difficult to get to. There is nothing to save here, it will almost be a controlled burn, says Olsen.

He says the fire crews will remain at the scene throughout the night and probably well into the day on Sunday. There will still be a lot of smoke and neighbors should keep their windows closed.

The police say that they are working on the hypothesis that the fire was arson.

– We have no witnesses, but it is the overall picture that makes us suspect it. There is no reason why an empty building should start burning by itself, says operations manager Gabriel Langfeldt in the Oslo police district to NTB.

The house was built in 1925 and was listed as protected by Byantikvaren, who believes that the house has architectural intrinsic value, despite several recent additions and changes. The style is given as Nordic Neo-Baroque, with Art Nouveau windows.
