Sport: Monday’s game was the first of two warm-up games for Gareth Southgate’s men. The match showed that England has sinister intentions.

Cole Palmer, who has been brilliant for Chelsea in the Premier League this season, put England ahead before the break. The in-form player got the chance from the penalty spot as a result of Harry Kane starting on the bench.

After the break, the aforementioned Kane came on and scored the 3-0 goal. Before that, Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold had made it 2-0 with a magnificent volley.

England fielded something that could resemble a somewhat reserved crew from the start on Monday. Marc Guehi, Lewis Dunk, Ezri Konsa, Jarrod Bowen, Eberechi Eze and Ollie Watkins all got their chance.

England face Iceland in the dress rehearsal ahead of the upcoming EC play-offs. That game will be played at Wembley next Friday.
