Parsons Corporation has been awarded a $53m, three-year contract by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) to provide programme management office (PMO) services for the Main and Ring Roads Program in Riyadh.
The contract further strengthens Parsons’ long-standing partnership with RCRC and its role in the city’s major infrastructure projects.
The Main and Ring Roads Program encompasses approximately 500 kilometres (310 miles) of new and improved road corridors.
Riyadh Roads Program in place to improve connectivity
The project is designed to enhance the road network in Riyadh, tackling congestion and improving connectivity, while supporting the city’s growth and future global events such as the Expo 2030 and FIFA World Cup 2034.
Upon completion, the new road infrastructure is expected to significantly reduce traffic-related delays and improve average travel times within the city.
Under the contract, Parsons will oversee all major road development programs in Riyadh, managing and controlling construction activities across the programme.
One of the primary goals of the project is to maintain smooth mobility during construction while addressing the city’s growing needs, including preparing for future events and meeting Riyadh’s ambitious urban development plans.
“We are proud to call the RCRC a long-standing client of ours and are honoured to be working on the Main and Ring Roads Program alongside them,” said Martin Boson, SVP and GM of Parsons’ Saudi Arabian operations. “With Riyadh being the most populated city in Saudi Arabia, the programme plays a fundamental role in facilitating the smooth mobility of people and vehicles within the city in the safest and most efficient way possible.”
Projects aligned with Vision 2030
The RCRC is responsible for delivering numerous megaprojects in Riyadh, in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiatives.
The Main and Ring Roads Program will play a key role in Riyadh’s broader transport transformation, complementing the city’s ongoing efforts to develop a multi-modal transport system, including the Riyadh Metro and a new bus network.
Parsons has been working with RCRC for over a decade on several key projects, including the Riyadh City Transportation Masterplan and the King Abdulaziz Project for Riyadh Public Transport. The Main and Ring Roads Program will serve as a vital interface within this transformative transportation network.
Parsons has a strong track record of delivering major infrastructure projects across the Middle East and Europe. With more than 50 active projects in Saudi Arabia, the company has a regional workforce of over 6,500 employees.
Riyadh Metro delivery by Parsons
In recent news, Parsons, as part of the Riyadh Metro Transit Consultants (RMTC) joint venture, successfully delivered the Riyadh Metro, which officially launched on November 27.
Alongside partners Egis and SYSTRA, Parsons provided project and construction management for two of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City’s (RCRC) metro contracts.
The Riyadh Metro, the world’s longest driverless metro system, spans 176.5 kilometres, with 86 stations and seven rail depots. It is a key component of Riyadh’s transformation under Saudi Vision 2030, addressing traffic congestion, reducing commute times, and enhancing the city’s sustainability.
Parsons, with a strong track record in rail and transit projects, contributed to the project’s success, ensuring safety with over seven million hours of work injury-free as of August this year.
