MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota — No. 4 Penn State hopes to lock in a spot in the College Football Playoff as the Nittany Lions travel to Huntington Bank Stadium to face the Minnesota Golden Gophers today. The game will air on CBS and Paramount+ with Showtime plan. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. Eastern.

Penn State (9-1, 6-1 B1G) enters the game on a hot streak with consecutive blowout wins over Washington and Purdue following a tough loss to Ohio State on Nov. 2. The Nittany Lions offense is led by junior quarterback Drew Allar, who threw for three touchdowns last week and averages 245 yards of total offense per game. His favorite target is tight end Tyler Warren, with 67 receptions and five touchdowns this season. They’ll face a solid Minnesota defense that gives up less than 18 points a game.
Coming off a bye week, Minnesota (6-4, 4-3 B1G) is looking to play spoiler much like it did when the Gophers upset Penn State in a Week 11 game in 2019. Senior quarterback Max Brosmer has been a steady presence after transferring from New Hampshire, throwing for 2,241 yards and 14 touchdowns against just four interceptions. But if the Golden Gophers are going to have any success against Penn State’s elite defense, they’ll have to control the time of possession. Enter running back Darius Taylor, who has rushed for 672 yards (4.9 YPC) and nine touchdowns, including a score in each of the last four games.
This could be a tough, grind-it-out, low-scoring affair.
