BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, NOV 24 – A 31-year-old local man was yesterday fined $20,000 by the Magistrate’s Court, after pleading guilty to possessing contraband cigarettes and vape pods
Muhammad Noor Azmi bin Samrey will have to serve 20 months in prison if he fails to pay the fine.
The charge was brought against the defendant under Section 146(1)(d) of the Excise Order, 2006.
The contraband includes 47 packets of cigarettes of various types and three vape pods, was confiscated during an operation carried out by the Law Enforcement Division, Royal Customs and Excise Department, Kuala Belait Branch on 8 February 2023.
During the operation, two locations were found, namely the parking lot of Taman Jubli Perak, Kuala Belait and in a house in RPN Kampung Panaga Seria.
Magistrate Abdul ‘Azim bin Othman ordered the confiscated goods to be confiscated and destroyed.
