‘Preparedness to deal with floods at the highest level’

PUTRAJAYA, 28 NOV – The level of preparedness to deal with floods at all levels has now been increased to the highest level, given that the disaster is expected to be worse than in 2014, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Chairman of the Central Disaster Management Committee, said a total of 82,794 officers and members were mobilized to deal with floods in several affected states, especially on the East Coast.

He said the government had identified 8,481 temporary evacuation centers (TPCs) capable of accommodating 2.1 million victims across the country to face the Northeast Monsoon (MTL) this time.

“In Kelantan, we have 448 PPS that can accommodate a total of 175,000 people and Terengganu, 749 PPS are prepared to accommodate approximately 214,000 victims.

“So in such a (flood) situation, the cooperation of all parties has been mobilized (to ensure the safety and welfare of flood victims),” he said in a press conference after chairing a flood disaster emergency meeting here today.

He said various assets of the rescue team were also mobilized including 2,031 rescue boats, 1,399 four-wheel drive vehicles and 31 helicopters. – Named
