Policy: 60-year-old Nauseda is challenged by Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte (49) in the second and decisive round of the presidential election. When the results from 30 percent of the votes had come in, Nauseda had 82 percent support.

The party-independent former banker Nauseda got 44 percent in the first round of voting. It was not enough to secure a new term without an extra round, but far above Simonyte’s 20 percent. Simonyte from the center-right party Hjemlandsunionen was the only woman among the eight candidates who ran for the first round of the presidential election.
