WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The two men who want to be your next vice president square off Tuesday night in New York, just five weeks before the election. A local political analyst weighs in on what to expect.
Political Science Professor at Friends University, Russell Arben Fox, said political people in active use like him will be glued to the debate to see how JD Vance and Tim Walz respond to each other. He also believes undecided voters who are tuning in have been busy with family, work, and other commitments and have lacked the time to learn about election candidates. He said they are now tuning in to become informed.
Fox said most of the country has dug in and made up their minds about who they will vote for on Nov. 5. He expects a fairly even debate between Vance and Walz and believes both will support the beliefs of their presidential running mate.
Fox thinks they will try to catch each other in previous statements and fact-check each other’s claims. He said there’s still a lot to learn about each candidate.
“They’ve had their own political experiences, they have their own histories, there are people that will be watching to see how they challenge those experiences and histories. Most of these challenges are likely to come from Walz directed at Vance,” said Fox.
He believes Vance will likely counter Walz in his military service.
Fox told KSN he would be shocked if viewership for the debate got anywhere close to the number of people watching the Trump versus Harris debate. He also said it could be an important night to bring those last undecided voters to the polls in November.
The debate begins at 8 p.m. on KSN. You can also watch it live on KSN.com.
