BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, NOV 6 – Jerudong Park Medical Center (JMPC) and Jerudong Beach Specialist Center (PJSC) celebrated World Patient Safety Day (WPSD) at a ceremony held at PJSC today.
WPSD which carries the theme, Improving Diagnosis for Patient Safety, emphasizing the important role of effective communication and collaboration among health care providers in preventing misdiagnosis.
In addition, it also highlights the importance of correct and timely diagnosis in ensuring patient safety.
Present to inaugurate the celebration was the Minister of Health, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar in his capacity as Chairman of JPMC and PJSC as well as Executive Director of JPMC.
Also present were the senior management and staff of JPMC and PJSC.
To further increase their commitment to patient care, the two institutions have implemented a series of joint donation campaigns to provide home testing devices such as glucometers and blood pressure monitors to patients in need in an effort to empower them to take care of their health through self-monitoring.
The matter was shared by the Head of Quality and Patient Safety at JPMC and PJSC, Awang Jeffry Damit in his welcome speech at the event.
He also stated that errors in diagnosis have a severe impact on patients.
Therefore, by prioritizing correct and timely diagnosis, we can significantly improve patient treatment outcomes as well as reduce preventable risks.
The event also saw the launch of educational videos and brochures on testing devices where the initiative is part of the corporate social responsibility of both organizations to equip patients with the equipment and knowledge needed for home health monitoring.
By providing affordable test strips and hands-on demonstrations during home visits, the initiative aims to ensure long-term, sustainable self-monitoring efforts for these patients.
In addition, a new policy regarding critical decision reporting was also implemented for PJSC to improve the effectiveness and timeliness of reports.
The policy is consistent with Joint Commission International (JCI) on International Patient Safety Goal (IPSG).
Meanwhile, JPMC has also appointed joint leaders and chapter leaders to lead the organization’s efforts towards JCI re-accreditation with a focus on patient safety.
Through these initiatives, JPMC and PJSC reaffirm their commitment to delivering high-quality patient-centered care and ensuring the safety of every patient.
