KUCHING, 30 OCT – Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli today held a meeting with Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and state cabinet ministers to discuss the Bill on carbon trading.
Rafizi said the discussion was focused on efforts to harmonize laws at the state and federal levels before the bill was tabled at the end of this year.
“The spirit is to ensure that Sarawak and Malaysia can implement Carbon Capture, Use and Storage (CCUS) as soon as possible according to the plans made and the process will continue.
“I am relieved to know that all parties agree to ensure the success of Malaysia’s progress, because CCUS is a high-tech activity that drives this leap forward,” he told reporters after holding a meeting with Abang Johari at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.
Rafizi said if Malaysia can implement carbon trading successfully in the next five years, it will put Malaysia ahead and make Sarawak a major player at the regional level.
Previously, Rafizi was reported to have said that the CCUS bill will be tabled in Parliament next November.
He said the enactment of the decarbonization law aims to regulate related activities, thereby attracting more investors to the country. – Named
