Raise HIV awareness with youth, peer activities

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, NOV 17 – The Brunei Darussalam AIDS Council (BDAIDS Council) continues to implement efforts to raise awareness about HIV among the youth through a program to disseminate information and awareness about HIV to the community, especially among teenagers and school students.

In connection with that, the BDAIDS Council implemented the HIV Awareness Program for Youth and Peers (HAPPY), a project led by youth with the aim of spreading awareness about HIV including knowledge about teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among teenagers and young adults. .

The program that took place yesterday at Katok Secondary School (SMK) involving about 50 students attended a talk delivered by BDAIDS Council Executive Committee members, Dayang Siti Kailene Jazlan Kashfi and Nurul Adilah Mahmud and participated in activities with members of the HAPPY team

During the talk, they shared the latest local statistics on STIs and teenage pregnancy by highlighting the age and gender that dominate the statistics and suggested abstinence as one of the methods to prevent young people from engaging in risky habits that can lead to STI infections, pregnancy outside of marriage or young marriage.

The program is an interactive program that combines audio and visual as well as interactive activities to deliver messages to young people where the messages are delivered to suit the local situation.

BDAIDS Council hopes that the students will take home the messages delivered as part of the learning process and can be implemented in their daily lifestyle.
