Sport: The Norwegian laid far out from the start and kept up a good pace. Eventually he climbed the field and made it to the top. With 400 meters to go, Ingebrigtsen and Kerr were at the front together, and at the end the Briton was fastest. Kerr won in a time of 3.45.34, while Ingebrigtsen achieved 3.45.60.

– It felt as expected. I ran maybe a little faster than expected. Just a few months ago, it was quite uncertain that I would go here at all, and also whether I would get a summer of competitions. It’s cool that we get a race like this. If this is what I get and will build on, it is quite sick, said Ingebrigtsen to NRK.

Ingebrigtsen has 3.43.73 as the best record for the distance.

– It was a great start to the race, he continued.

The race was the first between Ingebrigtsen and Kerr since the Briton beat Ingebrigtsen in the 1500 meters during the WC in Budapest last year. In the time since, there has been a war of words in which both have fired at each other.

On Saturday, they were supposed to make up on the tartan deck in Eugene, USA, where Ingebrigtsen took gold in the 5000 meters and silver in the 1500 meters during the WC in 2022.

One English mile is converted to 1609 metres. Also starting on Saturday was Jake Wightman, who beat Ingebrigtsen in the aforementioned 1500 meters in 2022. He finished in fifth place.

– It was fine, but I hoped it would go better, Wightman said to NRK.
