Ruoning Maybank 2024 golf champion

KUALA LUMPUR, 27 OCT – World number four player Yin Ruoning put on a brilliant performance by recording a 65 in the final round to claim her second title in three weeks at the United States (US) LPGA Tour Maybank Championship in Malaysia, today.

The 22-year-old Chinese number one is in her best form on the LPGA Tour in Asia after winning the Buick Shanghai Championship two weeks ago and finishing 14th in the BMW Championship in South Korea last week.

At the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, Yin recorded his third win of the year with a total of 23-under 265, one stroke ahead of Thailand’s Jeeno Thitikul.

Yin, along with South Korea’s Jeeno and Ryu Hae-ran, started the final day tied at 16-under par, but Yin managed to finish with birdie seventh on the last hole without bogey.

Ryu finished tied for third at 21-under par, one shot behind.

“I was a bit nervous,” admitted the former number one player in the world, Yin.

“I really appreciate Haeran and Jeeno. They gave me the best challenge,” he added.

“This was a great day on the field and another wonderful day with friends,” he said.

Yin attributed his outstanding performance at the end of the season to his mental strength and ability to handle pressure.

“I studied a lot since the beginning of the year because I was quite stressed,” said Yin.

“Last year was incredible and I wonder if I can win again.

“But I realized that I just have to enjoy the game and have fun,” he added. – AFP
