Accidents and natural disasters: Bombs, grenades and drones rain over several Ukrainian villages in northeastern Ukraine. According to the governor of the Kharkiv region, Oleh Synjehubov, over 30 villages have been attacked. Nine people were injured as a result of the attacks.

– They attack the villages with artillery, they shoot at everything they can, says the head of the military administration in the village of Lyptsi, Sergiy Kryvechenko.

Governor Synjehubov says on Monday that almost 6,000 people have been evacuated from the area. Ukraine admits Russian advance.

– The enemy is achieving tactical success at the moment, writes the Ukrainian General Staff in an update on social media on Monday morning.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Russia has taken over control of nine Ukrainian villages in the region, and there may be more.

The Kharkiv governor says there is a chance the fighting could spread to other villages.

– Russian forces are attacking in smaller groups in an attempt to stretch the front line, says Synjehubov.

Both Ukrainians and Western allies fear that this is the prelude to a larger operation against Ukraine’s second largest city, Kharkiv, just 30 kilometers south of the border with Russia.

Russia has recently aimed large parts of its forces at the Kharkiv region in northeast Ukraine. They have done that successfully, the Ukrainians admit.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense says it has improved its position in the area, while Ukrainian forces are said to have been weakened.
