Composer Datuk S Atan died at 3:53 pm on Saturday due to suffocation.
S Atan or real name Hashim Said breathed his last at the age of 75.
The news of the famous composer’s passing was confirmed by his wife, Datin Norizan Yeob, who informed that the deceased breathed his last at their residence in Kajang, Selangor.
Norizan said her late husband had been admitted to a hospital on October 16 for five days due to shortness of breath.
“My husband just died a while ago due to suffocation.
“Previously he received treatment at the hospital on October 16 and was detained in the ward for five days due to the same problem,” he said when contacted. mStar on Saturday.
For the record, S Atan is a composer originally from Singapore and his work is widely known especially through hymns such as On the eve of Hari Raya, From Far Away I Apologize, Back to the Village, Light of Aidilfitri and It’s beautiful to celebrate in the village.
S Atan has also produced more than 1,000 songs for popular country singers such as Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, Tan Sri SM Salim, Datuk DJ Dave, Datuk Jamal Abdillah, Carefree, Black Dog Bone and the late Datuk Sudirman Arshad.
After five decades of coloring the country’s entertainment industry, S Atan was awarded the Darjah Pangkuan Seri Melaka (DPSM) carrying the title of Datuk at the 74th birthday celebration of the Melaka State Governor, Tun Dr Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam in August 2023.
Not only that, the deceased also just received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 36th Daily News Popular Star Award (ABPBH36) which took place on October 11.
The award was given for his devotion and contribution in the field of song creation and Malay music treasures. – Agency
