‘Saturday Night Live’ alum recalls prank pulled on Diddy

NEW YORK – “Saturday Night Live” alum Ana Gasteyer said Sean “Diddy” Combs was not amused by pranks when he appeared on the NBC sketch comedy show.

Gasteyer, 57, was a cast member on the show from 1996 to 2002. She recalled Diddy’s musical guest appearance in 1998 when he was promoting his song “Come With Me.”

As a guest on the “Las Culturistas” podcast, Gasteyer told hosts Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang that Diddy demanded a closed set.

Diddy, who was arrested in September following a sex trafficking investigation, demanded a closed set while rehearsing alongside the New York Philharmonic.

“Famously, when P. Diddy came, he, of course, shut down the whole building,” she said. “You know SNL, you can tell the five (expletive) in the six years I was there. They’d be like, ‘So and so is in the building. Everybody stay in your dressing rooms.’ Which is applicable if you’re a presidential candidate, but apart from that, really it’s my house.”

Gasteyer said Will Ferrell pulled a prank on Diddy that did not go as planned.

The comedian interrupted the rapper during rehearsal by entering the room in a character he called “Ron,” pretending to be confused and walking across the stage.

“…He really did not roll with it,” Gasteyer said. “He was very uncomfortable. The artifice of all the faux importance.”

“(The SNL writers) were like, ‘Wouldn’t it be so funny if Ron just went in?’ And he did,” she said. “He went on down the stairs and he marched right in, and I have the video from the control room where Sean Combs is rapping, and Ron’s just walking around looking really disoriented.”
