Sport: Scheffler was handcuffed early this morning American time after allegedly failing to stop his car on orders from the police when he arrived at the facility before the second round. According to ESPN journalist Jeff Darlington, a policeman is said to have screamed at the world leader and asked him to get out of the car.

He was then brought to the police station and charged with several matters, according to the report ESPN. Among other things, it will concern violence against a police officer and reckless driving.

A few hours later he was released and back at the golf course in Louisville to start the second round of the major tournament. The American was four strokes under par after the first round.

In a statement, Scheffler says that it is all about a misunderstanding.

– I did as I was told by the police and it was a very chaotic situation, which is understandable considering the tragic accident that had happened. There was a huge misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do. It was never my intention not to listen to the police. I hope to put this aside and focus on golf today.
