Seven dead in rallycross accident in Sri Lanka

Sport: Several thousand attended the Fox Hill Supercross race in the town of Diyatawala, about 18 miles east of the capital Colombo.

It is not known what led to the accident, but the police say one of the cars drove off the track and hit several spectators and officials. Four of those who lost their lives were civil servants, says police spokesperson Nihal Thalduwa. He adds that the condition of three of the injured is critical.

The accident occurred in the 17th of 24 scheduled races. The competition was suspended following the accident, which is being investigated by the police.
