Sewer discharges raise health, drinking water concerns

LOWELL — A Boston University study found that a dip in the waters of the Merrimack River may bring cooling relief and a trip to a local emergency department for an acute gastrointestinal illness and other health issues due to pathogens in the water from combined sewer overflows.
