Policy: A majority in the justice committee wants to make it clear that physical stores must accept cash payment, writes Dagbladet.

The justice committee presented its recommendation on Wednesday. The proposal is supported by the majority from the Labor Party, the Center Party, the Progress Party, SV and the Liberal Party.

The right-wing Sveinung Stensland fears the law will lead to more expensive services.

– The Conservatives are supporters of cash in society, but you must have a better exception provision. It is not vital to have your hair cut, you should be able to get an exception. We agree that you should be able to get health care and buy food with cash.

– A requirement for cash will increase costs for thousands of businesses, not just Cutters. This affects all traders in Norwegian trade in goods and services and will lead to higher prices, says managing director Gunn Inger Hansen at Cutters to Dagbladet.
