Spandau water polo players win DSV Supercup for the 19th time

The water polo players from Spandau 04 have won the 25th DSV Supercup. The Berlin team beat champions Waspo 98 Hannover 10:9 in Magdeburg and won the title for the fourth time in a row. For Spandau it was the 19th success overall, while for Hannover it remains at six Supercup victories for the time being.

The long-time rivals, with their teams having changed personnel, fought the usual tough and emotional battle. In the first national summit duel of the new season, there were numerous penalties on both sides. Hannover took a 1-0 lead after 49 seconds, but then the 04ers found their rhythm, were effective in attack and led 4-1 at the start of the second quarter. Waspo held out and reduced the deficit to 4-5 before the break.

Spandau always found good answers to Waspo’s goals, went into the final quarter with an 8:6 lead, then even went ahead 10:7 and brought home the ultimately deserved victory. Ivan Vukojevic was the best scorer with three goals. Yanneck Chiru, Marko Stamm and Marek Tkac each contributed two goals.
