Squid Game star O Yeong-su has been charged in South Korea with sexual misconduct, according to South Korean media.
The award-winning actor, 78, faces accusations of touching a woman inappropriately in 2017.
According to the Yonhap news agency the alleged victim first made a complaint against Mr O to police in December last year – but the case was closed in April.
It has been reopened “at the request of the victim” and the prosecution has agreed to investigate.
Mr O has not been detained and has denied the allegations, according to the reports.
In a statement to South Korean broadcaster JTBC, the actor denied wrongdoing. He said: “I apologised because [the person] said she wouldn’t make a fuss about it but it doesn’t mean that I admit the charges.”
Mr O shot to fame in the Netflix survival thriller Squid Game, which first aired 2021.
He played the oldest contestant, 001, and became the first South Korean to win best supporting actor at the Golden Globe in January.
It is Netflix’s most-watched series ever. In the first 28 days of its release it brought in more than one billion viewers.
A second season is in the works but it has not been confirmed whether Mr O will feature. Netflix did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
