PETALING JAYA, 2 OCT – An unemployed man was charged in the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court today on charges of murdering an interior designer who was stabbed to death 20 times in an apartment unit in Persiaran Meranti, Bandar Sri Damansara last month.
Lim Wah Siong, 50, nodded in understanding to the charge which was read out in Mandarin before Magistrate Shahril Anuar Ahmad Mustapha. No confession was recorded from the accused because the offense was under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
The man was charged with killing Muhammad Sharqawi Abu Bakar, 36, in an apartment unit in Persiaran Meranti, Bandar Sri Damansara, Kuala Lumpur at 9pm, 14 September last. The charge is presented in accordance with Section 302 of the Penal Code which provides for the punishment of hanging to death, if convicted.
The court fixed November 8 for the mention of the case for the chemical report and autopsy. The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurain Syafiqeen Mohd Rozi while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
Previously, the media reported that the victim was found dead in an apartment unit in Bandar Sri Damansara with 20 stab wounds all over the body including the hands and head.
As a result of the police investigation, the incident was caused when the victim realized that the suspect broke into his house to steal before a fight that led to the murder. Following that, the police arrested the suspect in a raid at an apartment in the capital at 3 am on September 21 last because he was suspected of being involved in the incident. – Named
