Policy: This was announced by Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Ap) when he met Moldovan President Maia Sandu in the Prime Minister’s residence on Tuesday morning.

– Moldova is strongly affected by Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. They are exposed to massive Russian disinformation campaigns and the economy is badly affected by the war in the neighboring country, says Støre.

Norwegian aid to Moldova increased strongly in 2023. Then the country received NOK 799 million, and Moldova is now the seventh largest recipient country of Norwegian aid.

Last year, the largest amount of aid went to the energy sector with NOK 410 million, while NOK 278 million went to emergency aid as a result of the refugee situation in the country.

Moldova is the only one of Ukraine’s neighboring countries to receive support through the Nansen programme. The support of 350 million will, among other things, cover more sectors than health and energy, such as education and good governance.

Sandu is in Norway on a state visit following an invitation from the royal couple. This is the first time a Moldovan president has visited Norway.
