Another reinforcing shot of cooler air is moving down the pipeline.
Temperatures overnight will chill to the 20s and 30s with the upper teens in McCook, Nebraska. Wichita will also be included in the mix of those below freezing into Thursday morning with a clear sky.
High pressure will continue to dominate from late this week and into the weekend. Thursday will be a few degrees cooler, but not a big change during the afternoon with a slight breeze.
Under sunny skies, temps will rebound through the 50s and several 60s starting Friday. It will be a beautiful stretch from Friday through the weekend. Changes will arrive with a cold front on Sunday. This paves the path to a much colder holiday week. Highs next week will be in the 30s and 40s with another surge of colder air before the following weekend.
The pattern also looks to pick up with a series of systems. Rain showers are possible on Tuesday and depending on track, timing and temps, some flurries will be possible farther north. This first system next week does not have a lot of moisture to gain momentum from in its stage of development over the area.
A stronger system may gel later in the week into the following weekend. Weather model guidance has struggled with key ingredients regarding this more active pattern for next week. As we get closer, the details will come into focus and be fine-tuned. Please continue to monitor trends if you plan to travel.
