Storm Track 3 Forecast: Evening strong storms track East, cooler Halloween

Showers and storms have formed and will track to the east through early tonight.  A Tornado Watch is in effect until 9 PM Wednesday for the Wichita Metro. Lyon, Greenwood, Elk and Chautauqua counties will be under the Tornado Watch until 10 PM.  All forms of severe weather are possible.

Storms will organize into a line, enhancing stronger winds before exiting.  Quarter size hail is also possible and a tornado or two cannot be ruled out.

Temperatures cool behind this front overnight.

Freeze warnings are in effect to the northwest and southwest where folks will be in the colder air longer.

Halloween will be comfortably cool and perfect for trick-or treating.  Temps will fall to the 40s farther north and the 50s across the south under a starry sky late in the evening.

Friday will be a transitional day.  Clouds will crowd later, and rain will approach from the south at night.  There will be multiple waves of rain and storms from Saturday through next Tuesday. This will be a welcomed and wet stretch.

Central into eastern Kansas still look to pick up the bulk of the moisture from 1″ to 3″ of liquid gold.  Locally higher rainfall totals during this stretch are possible.  Rainfall amounts will drop off over the High Plains in the west where 0.5″-1″ of rain is possible over this multi-day stretch.

There will also be some instability to work with this weekend.  Sunday, a stronger storm or two may form over the core of Kansas.

Temperatures from Sunday into next Tuesday will favor the 50s and 60s during the afternoons. Another weak system next Wednesday may pop a few showers but looks weak.  We will cool further with highs in the 40s and 50s the second half of next week.
