Storm Track 3 Forecast: Rainy weekend ahead, strong to severe storms possible

After a sunshiny and milder Friday, our attention turns to a multi-day rain event that will bring a healthy amount of moisture to parts of the region.

Storm Track 3 Forecast: Rainy weekend ahead, strong to severe storms possible

Clouds will approach from the south by evening which area playoff football games will notice.

After midnight, scattered showers and a few embedded rumbles of thunder will enter our southwest counties.

This will expand and blossom into a healthy and widespread rain that tracks into central and eastern Kansas for much of Saturday.

An isolated storm or two could produce strong to severe storms along the Oklahoma state line in southcentral Kansas.

Temperatures this weekend through Monday will be near average for this time of year.

Another surge of rain and storms will target the area on Sunday.  If sunshine can break through the clouds, then a few severe storms are possible in the mix over our central counties.

Persistent cloud cover could be a limiting factor with this round that could help keep severe storms tamed. That said, one or two could get strong enough for damaging winds and larger size hail.

Additional widespread rain will march across the state on Monday before exiting by Tuesday. Moisture may escape in time before temps get cold enough to squeeze out any snow near the Colorado state line.

Rainfall potential will be the highest in central and eastern Kansas with less to the west.  Central counties pick up 1″ to 3″ of rain.  More than 3″ of rain for southeast Kansas. Closer to the Colorado state line, a quarter to a half inch with localized amounts to 1″ are likely.

It will be much colder in western Kansas on Tuesday morning with most temps falling into the 20.  Temperatures will then trend below average in the 40s and 50s for highs the rest of next week.

Weather model guidance continues to showcase another good wave of rain late next week into the start of the following weekend.
