BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, SEPT 23 – The youth need to develop critical thinking skills because today’s youth generation has access to more knowledge.
However, in acquiring the relevant knowledge, they must also filter the information received to obtain useful and authentic knowledge.
The advice was shared by the Minister of Health, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar during a sharing session for the Future Leaders Academy Program (FLY) which took place at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) recently.
The sharing session was attended by more than 150 UBD students where they had the opportunity to hear the story of the Honorable Minister of Health’s early career journey through hard work, taking initiative and seizing every opportunity to do the best with the big or small responsibilities entrusted to him.
Yang Berhormat Dato also gave an example while working for a long time as a trainee in Scotland under the guidance of strict doctors where the challenging period has shaped his character, problem solving skills and built his resilience.
During the sharing session, Yang Berhormat Dato also discussed about leadership where he shared his experience of helping to lead the country in efforts to deal with the spread of COVID-19.
He expressed his great appreciation to the Council of His Majesty the Sultan and the Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for His Majesty’s wise leadership, unwavering commitment and the support of all ministries who together with medical staff and volunteers work together deal with the crisis faced together.
He attributed open communication as an important factor to the country’s approach to dealing with COVID-19. Among the strategies emphasized is dealing with false information quickly and on time through daily press conferences that are broadcast nationwide.
At the same time, delivering a firm and swift approach to providing full transparency with clear instructions on a consistent basis is also key to success, he added.
In addition, Yang Berhormat Dato also discussed the role of the Ministry of Health in achieving Brunei Vision 2035, particularly the goal of ensuring the highest quality of life through healthcare and achieving world-class health and safety standards.
