Suspected Trump assassin left letter with plans

Following the alleged assassination attempt on Donald Trump, the public prosecutor’s office published a letter that the main suspect is said to have written before his act. The letter – addressed to “the world” – states: “This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump, but I have disappointed you. I tried my best and gave everything I could muster.” He offered a reward for whoever would complete his act.

By publishing the letter and other investigative findings on the case, the public prosecutor’s office wanted to ensure that the 58-year-old remained in custody until further notice. On Monday, according to US media, a court agreed to the prosecution’s request and justified this with the evidence. Ryan Wesley Routh is accused of possession of a firearm as a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obscured serial number. It is expected that further charges will be brought against him.

Box stored at a friend’s house

According to the public prosecutor’s office, the letter was in a box that the 58-year-old had left with an acquaintance before the crime. It also contained ammunition, a metal pipe, various building materials, tools, four telephones and other documents. The acquaintance opened the box and informed the police after hearing about the crime, it was said.

A week ago on Sunday, the Secret Service shot an armed man hiding in the bushes at Trump’s golf course in Florida. The suspect did not fire a bullet and fled, but was arrested and charged shortly afterwards. Court documents show that Routh’s cell phone was at the crime scene for around twelve hours beforehand – and thus he himself was too.

On November 5, former President Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris will face each other in the presidential election. Two months ago, Trump was attacked in the state of Pennsylvania. He was slightly injured.
