Policy: The announcement came in Brussels, where on Tuesday Jonson has had “intense talks” with other countries in the air defense coalition that assists Ukraine with aircraft and air defense systems.

– We have been urged by the other countries in the coalition to wait to send Gripen combat aircraft. It is connected with the fact that the focus is now on the introduction of F-16 fighter jets, says Jonson.

Norway, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands have all promised Ukraine F-16 aircraft. The first aircraft are expected to be delivered during the year, which means that the Gripen aircraft will be put on hold until further notice.

– WE in no way rule out that it may become relevant in the future, but right now the focus on the Ukrainian side is to implement the F-16 aircraft, says the Minister of Defence.
