KUALA LUMPUR, 23 SEPT – The strength of the hands when making a smash shot became the main weapon of the national professional men’s doubles team, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani, won the 2024 China Open champion title yesterday, said former world number one men’s doubles player, Tan Boon Heong.
Boon Heong said that every couple should have their own special features in the ring, thus can be used as a secret weapon to achieve victory after victory.
“They can also arrange tactics based on the advantages they have. This will make the opponent more careful and not take the match lightly.
“I saw the Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin game very well, especially with Nur Izzuddin’s smashing power. This gives them a big advantage on the court,” he said when contacted here today.
When asked about another national men’s pair, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, Boon Heong said they need something different on the court, to create their own strength.
“They need to take some time, because I see that there is no privilege that can make opponents afraid every time they meet,” he said.
Boon Heong gave the example of his great partnership with Koo Kien Keat once upon a time, who has strength from an attacking point of view and the Chinese player Fu Haifeng is also known for his strong shot.
Yesterday, Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin managed to win the first Super 1000 level tournament in their career, after defeating the host pair He Ji Ting-Ren Xiang Yu 13-21, 21-12, 21-17.
As the China Open champions, Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin took home US$148,000 (RM622,361) while Ji Ting-Xiang Yu won US$70,000 (RM294,360). – Named
