GARDEN CITY, Kan. (KSNW)—A teen was arrested on Monday following a school threat investigation in Garden City.
According to the Garden City Police Department, a school resource officer was notified of a possible criminal threat allegedly being made by a 14-year-old at Kenneth Henderson Middle School on Monday.
During the investigation, GCPD said that the teen was not listening to KHMS personnel or the SRO and attempted to strike the officer before being taken into custody.
The school was placed into a brief lockdown.
The teen was later taken to the Southwest Kansas Juvenile Detention Center on suspicion of aggravated criminal threat, assault of a law enforcement officer, and interference with a law enforcement officer.
“The Garden City Police Department and Garden City Public Schools take every threat seriously and will continue to partner to ensure the safety of students and staff and the community. We encourage parents to remind your child to immediately report information about any school safety-related incident(s) to administrators/staff and/or the Garden City Police Department,” said GCPD in a news release.
KSN does not name juvenile suspects until they have been formally charged as an adult.
