Nature and environment: Luiselli is author number 10 out of the Future Library.

The first author to submit a text to the Future Library was Margaret Atwood in 2015.

Since then, a number of internationally known authors have contributed new texts, which will be collected in an anthology to be published in 2114 – on paper made from the trees planted in 2014 on a forest plot in Nordmarka.

Anne Beate Hovind, chairman of Stiftelsen Framtidsbiblioteket, believes the art project – signed by Scottish Katie Paterson – is “typically Norwegian”, with an emphasis on forests, nature, down-to-earthness, innocence and authenticity.

– The core of the work is about the long term, hope, trust and rituals. The fact that the work lasts beyond our lifetime makes it unique and different. It shows the way forward to those who have not yet been born and who need to be heard, says Hovind, according to the press release.

Valeria Luiselli starts the visit with a forest tour in Nordmarka, handing over the text to Paterson and mayor Anne Lindboe, before the course is set for Deichman Bjørvika. There, her literary works are placed in a glass box in the Stillerrommet, before the author’s interview awaits.
