Sport: The double Tour de France winner broke his collarbone, several ribs and suffered a puncture in one lung when he was involved in a horror rollover in the Spanish race on April 4.

At home in Monaco, Slovenian Pogacar sat with his fiancee Urska Zigart and followed the stage. At a press conference before the prestigious Giro d’Italia, the Tour de France winner from 2020 and 2021 talks about the shock he experienced when several of his competitors collapsed on the ground.

– When the rollover happened, it was completely quiet. Those were horrible pictures to look at. There were so many people who were unable to move, and that is something that definitely should not happen, Pogacar asserts.

UAE sports director Joxean Fernandez Matxin was at the hospital early to visit Vingegaard. Pogacar, for his part, has not spoken to his Danish rival since the horror story.

– I have not spoken to him, but I also think that he wants some privacy. It was really dramatic, but I hope he recovers quickly. It can be traumatic for a cyclist, so it must be tough for him. I hope he gets as much support as he needs from family and friends, continues the Slovenian.

Vingegaard and Pogacar have shared equally the overall victories in the last four editions of the Tour de France. The former is the reigning double winner, while the Slovenian won in 2020 and 2021. On Saturday, Pogacar sets out on the Giro d’Italia, where he will, among other things, receive valuable help from Vegard Stake Laengen.
