BANGKOK, NOV 7 – A Thai court today acquitted a woman of involvement in the 2015 bomb attack at Bangkok’s popular Erawan temple, which claimed 20 lives, mostly tourists.
Wanna Suansan is accused of complicity in murder, attempted murder, and possession of illegal explosives in connection with the explosion.
A court in Bangkok ruled that there was insufficient evidence against the 36-year-old woman and acquitted her of all charges.
The main suspects in the bombing, two Uyghur men, are still on trial, although their case has dragged on for years.
Wanna, who hails from the southern province of Phang-Nga, is accused of renting a property and supplying chemicals to the bombers.
However, Wanna was in Turkiye with her husband at the time of the explosion, and the judge ruled that the prosecution failed to prove any connection between her and the main suspect.
“There is no picture of him at the scene of the incident, no phone data, and no phone connection linking him to the other two suspects,” said the judge.
“There is no evidence to prove that the accused is guilty of the charges, so the court acquits him.” – AFP
