He is accused of hitting the prime minister in the right upper arm with his fist, causing her to lose her balance. The section of the law he is charged with concerns violence and threats against a person in public service.

The blow caused Frederiksen to have a minor knock on his neck, the Prime Minister’s office told Ritzau on Saturday morning. She is otherwise safe, but is shaken by the incident.

Several events the prime minister was supposed to attend on Saturday in connection with the EU election campaign have been cancelled, and it is not clear how the event will affect her calendar on Sunday.
