Crime and justice: The man was produced for remand on Saturday. He was both drunk and under the influence when he punched Frederiksen in the upper arm on Friday evening, it emerged during the court hearing.

The 39-year-old said that he is ashamed of the incident, and that he has nothing against Frederiksen. He knows very well who she is, he said during the court hearing, according to Danish Television 2.

– I cannot agree that I disagree with the Prime Minister’s views. I think she is a really good prime minister, said the man via a Polish interpreter in the witness stand.

He is accused of hitting the prime minister in the right upper arm with his fist, causing her to lose her balance. The section of the law he is charged with concerns violence and threats against a person in public service.

The blow caused Frederiksen to have a minor knock on his neck, the Prime Minister’s office told Ritzau on Saturday morning. She is otherwise safe, but is shaken by the incident.
