Economy and business: On Sunday, spokespersons from the Taliban regime report that 315 people have died as a result of the flood in the north of the country. Another 1,600 people are injured. It is Baghlan province that is the hardest hit.

Save the Children’s Afghanistan director Arshad Malik estimates that 310,000 children lived in the worst affected areas.

Thousands of homes have been damaged. Livestock have also been lost. Aid groups in the area state that the flood has caused damage to important infrastructure and water supply. In some places the streets are covered with mud. The UN considers Afghanistan to be one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change.

The Minister of the Interior says on Sunday that the rising number of dead was as expected.
