CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Browns and Broncos put on a show on Monday Night Football. But despite some outstanding moments and a record-setting night from Jameis Winston, he and the Browns could not overcome two pick-sixes in a 41-32 loss in Denver.
Winston set the Browns single-game record for passing yards with 497 and he threw four touchdowns. However, he also had three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns.
Winston threw a pick-six to linebacker Nik Bonitto late in the first half. With his team down by two in the final two minutes, Winston threw another pick-six to Broncos cornerback Ja’Quan McMillian to put the game away.
The turnovers spoiled what was a career-best game for Jerry Jeudy. In his first game against the team that drafted him, Jeudy had nine catches for a career-high 235 yards and a touchdown. Jeudy’s previous high for yards in a game was 154.
The loss clinched a losing season for the Browns as they fell to 3-9 and will head to Pittsburgh on Sunday.
Here is how social media reacted to Monday night’s game.
“450+ passing yards
4 passing touchdowns
2 pick sixes
The full Jameis Winston experience,” Will Brinson of CBS Sports posted.
“‘The Jameis Winston Experience’ Sets the single-game passing record in franchise history… The very next play: the game-sealing pick-6 touchdown,” WKYC-TV’s Nick Camino posted.
“The. Full. Jameis. Experience. Again,” sports personality Jim Rome posted.
“You know what you’re getting with this experience. This is part of it. At least there’s always a chance and it’s fun,” Camryn Justice of WEWS-TV posted.
“Jameis Winston is a starting QB in this league. Point-blank. I don’t even think that’s a hot take anymore,” Fox Sports insider Jordan Schultz posted.
“Jameis Winston has the arm to throw for 500 yards and 4 TDs… the judgement to give the other team 14 points via multiple pick-6s… and the personality to keep us laughing at every moment,” Warren Sharp of Sharp Football posted.
“Way she goes,” Ken Carman of 92.3 The Fan posted.
“That was the most Jameis Winston game of all time.
497 yards
4 TDs
3 INTs
2 pick-6s
The entirety of the Jameis scale in 60 minutes,” Mike Lucas of the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show posted.
“genuinely feel for Jameis but he can’t get out of his own way even if he’s having the game of his life,” Jordan Zirm of The Sporting News posted.
“Over the last 13 years, I truly don’t think I’ve ever seen Jameis Winston play in a boring football game,” YouTube football analyst Brett Kollmann posted.
“Kudos to Jerry Jeudy…he has been outstanding since Jameis became the starter. Super impressive what he is doing tonight,” Adam the Bull of the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show posted.
“Jameis Winston just summarized his entire career in one Monday Night Football game,” JC Cornell, founder of The Draft Network, posted.
“Inch-perfect throw to the sideline to convert third-and-12 and a horribly-placed throw to the sideline for a pick-six on the next play. Jameis World,” ESPN’s Bill Barnwell posted.
“as a once proud resident of Jameis Island, it’s funny to think how much energy was wasted arguing that he’d be more than this when he’s given us all so much,” Gregg Rosenthal of the NFL Daily podcast posted.
“A few thoughts on an incredibly entertaining game. This team hasn’t quit on its coach. Jerry Jeudy can be great with a half-way decent QB (his effort on the last pick was sensational) The Jameis experience is unmatched when its for your team. Defense gives up 2 many big plays,” Chris Rose of NFL Network posted.
“Trolling aside, props to Jeudy for having a ridiculous game. Wish we saw some of that when he was with the Broncos,” the account for the Mile High Report posted.
“Learned more about Jerry Jeudy on that last interception by Jameis Winston than all the yards he had. Sprinted and hustled to not allow the Pick-6. Won’t go down as an Offensive stat but a great play that shows the dude cares regardless of circumstances,” ESPN analyst Kirk Morrison posted.
“4.45am good night the Cleveland #Browns I believe our season is now officially over – no possibility to make playoffs,” Browns fan and vlogger Paul Brown from London posted.
