Curiosities and celebrities: – The support of the people alone cannot support a king. You also need to live in love with those closest to you, said King Harald in his speech to King Frederik and Queen Mary on Tuesday evening.

– The family is perhaps your most important support device. At least I have experienced that, added the king.

It has been a full 20 years since King Frederik gave his yes to Australian-born Mary in the cathedral in Copenhagen. On the wedding day itself, both are present at the gala dinner at the castle in Oslo.

In addition to the royals, ministers, parliamentary leaders and guests from Norwegian and Danish society and business are also present at the castle dinner. Among the guests are Ståle Solbakken, Casper Ruud, Aksel Lund Svindal and Amalie Iuel.

– Dear Mary, you took on a big task when you went and fell in love with this sporty Dane. You gave up a lot that was safe and familiar. You made Denmark and the Danes your own heartland and heartland, said the king to the Danish queen.

He then encouraged the 201 guests present at the dinner to give a round of applause on the occasion of the royal couple’s big anniversary.

– We think it’s very nice that you chose to celebrate your wedding day here with all of us!

On the 18th birthday of the royal couple’s son Crown Prince Christian last year, both the Norwegian Crown Prince Couple and Princess Ingrid Alexandra were at the party.

– The Queen and I are grateful that the close ties of family and friendship between our two families are also continued through new generations. It means a lot to all of us, I think, said King Harald.

– And of course we expect that you too will continue the tradition of spending lots of time in the Norwegian mountains and embracing the somewhat peculiar Norwegian sport of cross-country skiing, said the king with a twinkle in his eye.

The visit to Norway is King Frederik and Queen Mary’s second state visit since they took over the Danish throne from Queen Margrethe in January. Margrethe had then sat on the throne for 52 years.

The fact that King Frederik and Queen Mary have a wedding anniversary was not forgotten by King Harald, who himself has been married to Queen Sonja for almost 56 years.

King Harald also took the opportunity to speak warmly about the bond between the Danish and Norwegian royal families.
